Baby Safety

Ensuring your baby is safe with your newborn photographer should be every parent’s - and photographer’s - first priority.

My priority while you are in my studio, is to provide a 100% safe environment where your baby is never put at any risk of harm or injury.

Kelly Brown is one of our most distinguished industry leaders, please watch her “Safe Handling + Safe Practices” youtube video for what should be standard practice in a newborn photographer’s studio.

Jade Read Photography aims to provide you with classic, beautiful photographs and memories that you can cherish and love by using a method of simplistic and natural posing that keeps your baby as safe and comfortable as possible at all times throughout your newborn session.

Should a client make a request for a style of baby pose that is deemed by the photographer to be advanced or of high risk to your baby, we will respectfully decline your request.

It is the policy of this studio to maintain baby safety as the first priority in all instances.

5 Questions to ask your newborn photographer

What ‘baby safety’ questions you should be asking your photographer, before booking a session.

Let’s please be very clear, these questions are simply just some peace of mind for you, that your photographer is interested and has taken some active steps to ensure they can do their job safely and offer your baby safe and appropriate handling whilst they are working.

This isn’t a hard and fast checklist and it is entirely up to you and your gut feelings/instincts who you feel safe with. The photographer of your choice DOES NOT need to check all of these questions, for you to book them either…. if you ask them these questions and they only have a few of them in the bag, and you feel confident in handing your baby to them, it all comes down to you and your decision.

If a photographer answers no to ALL of these questions, I would possibly consider choosing another photographer.

  1. Have you completed any 1 on 1, in person training with an experienced baby photographer on safe baby handling practices and posing techniques?

Yes, is the answer you want to hear.

  2. When did you complete this training and who was it with?

Look them up. See if they are seasoned experts and long standing professionals within the industry.

  3. Have you completed any infant first aid training in the last 1 - 3 years?

Yes, is the answer you want to hear.

  4. Can I see your most recent infant first aid training qualifications?

There is no harm in asking to see which class or course they took. There are lots out there.

  5. Is your business registered and insured for Public Liability?

You can ask to see a ‘certificate of currency’ for insurance, if you want.
